Omar Bonderud Human Rights Award![]() The Omar Bonderud Award is presented by the Bloomington Human Rights Commission to an individual or organization that has made a significant contribution to ensuring the rights of people in Bloomington. Omar Bonderud was the first Chairperson of the Bloomington Human Rights Commission, formed in 1968.
Award applicationThe Bloomington Human Rights Commission is seeking nominations for the Omar Bonderud Human Rights Award. We need your help in finding an exceptional individual or organization that has made special efforts to ensure human rights for all Bloomington citizens. Please submit an application describing what the individual or organization has done in the field of human rights, based on the established criteria. (An application can be downloaded using the link below.) The selected individual or organization will be recognized and receive a plaque at a Bloomington City Council meeting. ![]() 2009 Bonderud award recipient Oak Grove Presbyterian Church. Oak Grove Presbyterian Church receives 2009 Omar Bonderud AwardThe 2009 Omar Bonderud Human Rights Award was presented to Oak Grove Presbyterian Church on December 7, 2009 at the City Council Meeting. Oak Grove was selected for recognition by the Human Rights Commission for their efforts to strengthen relationships in Bloomington's diverse community. They served as a cosponsor of several youth programs including leadership events and homework assistance. Church members have also participated in cultural exchanges with the Muslim Community Center.
